FAQ

We use a natural material (with a complicated name) called polylactic acid, or PLA. This plastic is bioderived from corn starch and recycled PET bottles. Our recycled PLA is sourced from a consistent stream of food packaging waste, collected by a leading recycler in the Benelux region. For every kg of PLA, the equivalent of 79 plastic bottles is repurposed.

In order to use as little material and energy as possible in the production of our pieces, we work with the most modern production processes. This includes additive manufacturing, better known as 3D printing. Corn starch is used as raw material, and therefore no petroleum is used. The lack of fossil fuels and lower air pollution in production mean it certainly has a place in the future of materials. It takes little over 40 minutes to produce a single coaster.

Sure. People have done it before and call it mix and match. Complete your order and message us asap with the two colors you’d like, on info@hundredlayers.com.

Shipping is free on orders over €70 for most countries. For some countries outside of the EU we charge a fee which will be added in the checkout. For orders under €70 shipping costs between €5 and €13, depending on the country of destination.

All items are designed and created in Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. Shipping takes between 1 and 5 days for Europe, and usually around 13 days for the US and Canada.

Yes, the coasters can be recycled. PLA can be 100% degraded under the right circumstances in terms of humidity, pressure and temperature. This has to be done professionally. If PLA is thrown away with regular household waste, all benefits are lost. Throwing things away – regardless of whether they are suited to be recycled – should always be the last resort.
